Measure the existing filter width × height × thickness. Actual dimensions are often slightly smaller than the nominal size used for ordering. You can enter decimals or common fractions such as 15.75, 15 3/4 or 3/4.

Higher is not automatically better

A higher MERV rating can improve particle capture, but the filter must still be compatible with the equipment and duct system.

AIRFLOW

Pressure drop matters

A restrictive filter can reduce airflow. Homes with weak airflow or freeze-up history should be cautious about increasing filter resistance.

SIZE

Order by nominal size

Replacement filters are generally sold by nominal size. The actual physical dimensions are often slightly smaller.
