Where should I look?

Outdoor AC / heat pump: exterior cabinet, commonly near the service-valve side.

Furnace / air handler: cabinet rating plate, often behind or near an access panel.

Boiler / packaged unit: cabinet exterior or accessible service area.

Turn equipment off before removing an access panel. Do not reach into energized equipment.

WHY THIS TOOL IS DIFFERENT

HVAC serial-number formats are not universal. They can change by manufacturer, factory, product line and production era. Central HVAC uses narrow verified local rules where appropriate and evidence-based research when a safe deterministic match is not available.

If the evidence is insufficient or conflicting, the tool returns an unresolved result instead of manufacturing a date.
