Budget Basis

Representative equipment pricing assumptions

The estimator uses publicly listed Goodman matched-system pricing from HVACDirect as a representative equipment-cost benchmark. It is a budgeting proxy—not a quotation, dealer price sheet or brand recommendation.

Current benchmark examples

  • 2.5-ton Goodman R32 AC + air handler: approximately $4,016–$4,520.
  • 3-ton Goodman R32 heat pump + air handler: approximately $4,182–$5,333.
  • 3-ton Goodman R32 AC + 96% gas furnace: approximately $5,474–$5,994.

What the multiplier is intended to cover

  • Equipment procurement and normal material.
  • Labor, supervision, startup and commissioning.
  • Overhead, insurance, vehicles, tools and warranty administration.
  • Reasonable contractor profit and project risk.

What can materially change the price

  • Actual load, airflow and matched-system requirements.
  • Brand, product tier, availability and manufacturer programs.
  • Ductwork, electrical, drainage, venting and structural conditions.
  • Hazardous materials, code corrections and concealed conditions.

Important limitation

This is a preliminary homeowner budgeting tool for replacement work in Central New Jersey. It is not an offer, proposal or guaranteed price. Proper equipment capacity, system compatibility and final scope require an onsite evaluation. Do not use this tool to size equipment.
