An air conditioner does not create cold—it moves heat
The cooling process depends on refrigerant changing pressure and temperature as it moves through the system. The indoor coil absorbs heat from the air in the home, and the outdoor unit releases that heat to the outdoor air.
At the same time, the indoor blower circulates air through the filter, across the evaporator coil and back into the rooms. If the refrigeration circuit is operating correctly but airflow is too low, system performance can still suffer.
That is why central air conditioning should be viewed as both a refrigeration system and an air-distribution system.
